Smartestman: Thank you for your resume. Here's mine: I too came from a poor family and I, infact, grew up in the area that this article covers. I graduated from the same high school as well. I did really well in high school and received a full ride scholarship to college. I worked not three, but five days a week all while taking 21 credit hours most semesters. I purchased two cars with cash in school and I have traveled the country. I too am no longer poor. In fact I was never poor as that is a state of mind that results from hopelessness (lack of money/opportunity+hopelessness=poor). So we are not that different you and I. You may have not accepted anything from the government that you feel are hand outs, but what happens when "whatever it takes" is not good enough? What happens when your entire community has fallen victim to gentrification. These people are not moaning and doing nothing, someone was just now brave enough to speak up and address the problems of a commuinty that has gone from something to nothing. This article is not about government handouts it's about redirection and positive leadership to take it back to the affluence it once had. So although you and I are the same on paper (kind of). The major difference is that I am not so far removed from where I came from and the experiences I have had to know that everyone is not as driven as I am. It is ok to not be excessive. It is not ok to take hope from people. So for you I think it is important to actually do more than buy a taco to understand what's going on. Humble yourself and realize that the clan's success is dependent on the leaders. When your leaders do nothing for you the result is nothing. With all do respect.
Smartestman, It is very important that you have done your research before commenting on such topics. It is clear that you have a lack of knowledge on the subject and the area. You not only have displayed yourself as ignorant, but also as the root of the problem that this article adresses. There are not many resources for those who want to "help themselves" to do so. Rob clearly is not waiting for a solution to his problem otherwise he would not have a feature story. Those are not normally written about the stagnant. So if you would like to have an opinion that can be taken seriously and want to maintain your "smartestman" title you should definitely try learning more about the community than the demise of Bea's Tex-Mex Tacos.
