Great lunch today. Looking forward to continuing the conversation tomorrow and Wednesday!
It's true John, Colorado Springs still has a lot to learn and we could definitely take some cues from our neighbors. But I also believe there is a lot to gain when community leaders go on these fact finding trips. It helps give our leaders vision, sometimes you really need to see it to believe in the possibility. Secondly, it gives us hope, most of the people we meet have faced similar challenges to the ones we see in Colorado Springs. The behind the scenes stuff of how they overcame those challenges often times aren't published in books and can only be understood through conversation. Most importantly though is these visits give folks uninterrupted time to chat with one another. I was amazed at some of the solutions/ideas we came up with last year in between meetings.
As for the Power Plant (since we are throwing out ideas) i'd be in favor of some sort of adaptive reuse project like what they did with Tate Modern.
