Great article Bryce! It's nice to see it when the kink and BDSM community is described positively. Colorado Springs has one of the most active and diverse kink communities I've ever seen and there are public events that happen every week, all over town. Hopefully this article helps people find these events and learn the skills they need to explore BDSM more safely.

Re: “Freedom by bondage”
@ Tejontech,
Several studies have been conducted by psychologists, sex therapists and other professionals that have concluded that BDSM, Fetish and kink is not a psychological abnormality that would require... as you say, "treatment".
There is a great quote by Dr. William A. Henkin who said,
"Absent distress, harm, or functional impairment, to define such activity as a mental disorder is to place chains on the human spirit, and to produce a chilling effect on the very processes we as psychotherapists are trained and charged to abet: the healing and liberation of damaged and imprisoned personalities, and their integration in the full creative expression of human beings." (Henkin, 1989)
I think it's right that we celebrate the liberation of our spirit and the acceptance of our truest selves, especially when faced with persecution and admonishment from those who would have us live in accordance with their perceptions of morality.
