Having a Board of County Commissioners seems to make it unnecessary that we actually vote on and approve things. Wish Amy would get to work on that resolution supporting a ban on President Obama. The people approved his return to office but that is certainly no reason to accept it in El Paso County.
Voters statewide approved recreational use.
Voters countywide approved recreational use.
County Commissioners will begin the process to ban recreational use:

The President is one thing. Amy is another! Did not voters speak to this issue? And once again, it is county commissioner Amy Lathen working to over-ride, yet again - a vote by the people.

THE FOLLOWING TWO ITEMS WILL BE HEARD AT 1:00 P.M.
5. Resolution Prohibiting the Possession, Consumption, Use or Display of Marijuana on County Property. (Lori Seago - Assistant County Attorney)
6. First Reading of Ordinance 13-01 Prohibiting the Operation of Marijuana Cultivation Facilities, Marijuana Product Manufacturing Facilities, Marijuana Testing Facilities, and Retail Marijuana Stores in Unincorporated El Paso County. (Lori Seago - Assistant County Attorney)
I propose a county ordinance banning "Slurpees and Icees" and Federal legislation controlling the use of wealth redistributing gas voucher cards. The 'Lathen Bill' introduced by Doug Lamborn. Right after sequestration is averted/implemented.
Sentence 1: Well gol dang it.
Sentence 2: They were out of MD-2020 in gallon size.
Sentence 3: Voucher expired anyway.
Mr. Miss, or Ms Siggie:
Please, I spent my entire twenty dollar county gas voucher on two dime bags so I could stand in line with great patience to cash my welfare check in order to pay my tuition to finish my Phd in “Monoidal T-Norm Based Logic” – basically the field that covers prelinear commutative bounded integral residuated lattices. A particularly relevant branch of ‘fuzzy math’ that allows one to design a mathematical subset that describes a politician, who never really had a real job – gets elected to public office to set complex fiscal policy for a region in serious economic decline then works to disallow an individual a chance to find work.
The point attempted to be made, and obviously not very well – is that in my most humble opinion, it would make more sense to provide a $20.00 gas voucher out of ‘taxpayer dollars’ to an unemployed individual so that he, she, or it might find a job and then start the process whereby he, she, or it might get off the public assistance role, food stamps, and begin work earning a taxable income – and thereby contribute toward the betterment of society by paying for some of the cost associated with running the government Mrs. Lathen appears to despise although, I have yet to see her refuse to accept her paycheck from her 'work' as a government employee.
Taking the logic that Mrs. Lathen espouses to it’s outer edge, it might lead us less toward a total state of ‘socialism’ desired by this nasty fascist President (as Lathen describes him) if we just ended all public assistance and let folks in need just friggin starve to death. Who needs poor people anyway? Damn poor folk just lay around makin’ babies anyway.
You will recall that Mrs. Lathen declared at the recent ‘state of the region’ message it was her intent to see that this becomes the most “business friendly” region in the world. What better way to be “business friendly” than make it possible for employers to have people come in and apply for jobs that produces the revenue the businessman can use to pay the property tax on his home and business which pays into the county general fund?
One point that may not be too clear at all and way too subtle – all those companies Mrs. Lathen hopes to see move to the region – that are not, but are moving to Austin and Reno and Huntsville - - could it be that those cities are not ‘anti-people’ and are cities that value the role government plays to assist those who need it and fosters an environment where their employees would be proud to live - - ?
And not a city featured on the national news as a bunch of sanctimonious council women who do not believe the hungry should be fed at a park while she is there? Or one that would deny $20.00 to one seeking work? One who might even have little kids to feed.
Do you really believe that an Apple or Google or FaceBook or high tech company will move their billion dollar operations to a city run by women who believe that if you are not in her particular political party that you are some kind of 'fascist pig?'
Call Marissa Meyer - see if she will move a Yahoo data center to the Springs and if not, why? Maybe just drive out and see her - swing by Palo Alto and visit with the venture capital firms and ask how much they have invested in start-up firms in the northern tier Colorado cities. They ask how much they have dropped in the Springs? On the long drive back - think about how many of us will even have jobs if we keep people as Lathen in office?
If you are proud of Amy, get in touch with party headquarters. They may need all the help they can get in future elections.
