re: Balloons :
So, Scott Appelman is going to shock and awe us for $90,000 by bringing in really cool shaped balloons (which we already attract) and events between and after the balloon launches ,like a food truck competition, well hell there is a brilliant idea! The trucks are already all parked together 1 mile away daily at platte and Nevada, this stuff is Genius!!! really? maybe a car show? brilliant. and it had a name Colorado Springs Colorado Balloon Classic and was a great event with 38 year history!, no the mayor and facebook and the news media want us to name the Balloon event and it must have the name Colorado springs in it , how stupid are we? "The New Colorado Springs Balloon fest and Car Show , now with food truck wars" yeah thats a better name than "Balloon Classic"! I can't wait to see just how much more fabulous it will be for our $90k investment.
Drake produces a huge percentage of central and downtown Colorado Springs energy generation! What the heck would replace the demand? I know for a fact Nixon and Manitou hydro and the USAFA Solar combined could not sustain the demands put on Martin Drake power generation. Nixon the Springs most southern power plant and largest, also HAS a natural gas turbine power plant, very expensive to run! And used mostly as backup production due to cost to operate. Coal is still the backbone of power in this region , and is the most affordable. Wind is a great supplemental energy source ,but less reliable due to the wind doesn't always blow! Unlike all the recent hot air on this topic. Before anyone says drake is the problem power plant show us a real viable solution. That's just smart business ,and my Vote is the citizens of Colorado Springs Utilities own it ,not private power such as Excel $$$ energy. Keep rates low !
Im Just wondering where all these green electric plug in cars are getting there power from ,are you thinking it's not from a coal power plant ? Coal is better than nuke or oil fired , and natural gas fired. Clean burning bag house type power plants Are more cost effective. I have owned four homes in Colorado Springs two with solar heat and hot water, it really can help offset utilities cost, however It is not an affordable option for many individuals. Did you know CSU ,actually goes to great lengths to educate how to save energy ,conserve water and be more green. They also own hydro plants at USAFA (co-op) and Manitou springs. Purchase wind energy, Did you know that cows also cause global warming.
There is no one right answer. But selling Drake or "moving" Martin drake
Is a bad idea and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to find out is
Kinda wasteful also!
The Utilities or any part there of , is NOT Steve Bach or Steve Schuck's to sell , it belongs
to the citizen owners customers of Colorado Springs Utilities. Believe it or not we love and appricate our local 4 service utilities, rates are good and service is excellent. they offer services to our Senior citizens ,such as pilot light ups and gas leak checks if they feel unsafe or smell gas (gas customers) Rates would skyrocket if utilities was ever voted to be sold and actually did sell)All four Services generate incomeand are profitable! does not the City recieve PILT (payments in lue of taxes) Does not the City already recieve funding from the opperations of Utilities! CSU Managed the billing of both streetlights and storm water enterprize. once our citizen owners finally got somewhat used to seeing the $3 and $1.67 charge on ther bills and money was comming in it ended thanks to another genius Douglas Bruce. and the TABOR bill. We don't need a convention center downtown or a baseball field either. if you want to watch baseball go to skysox stadium or go north to rockies game.
P.S Mr Bach , shouldn't you do whats right and make good on the Memorial Hospital / Pera Issue, before you do anything else .
