This is sadly funny, in that pathetic, head shaking way. A typo means I'm not a supporter. Oh, and I'm a Messianic Jew. Personal attacks, much? Assumptions based on, well, complete and total ignorance? Idiots. No wonder you understood neither what I wrote nor what the web site author wrote. That's unfortunate, but it seems to be the turn this group is taking. Well reasoned argument and a forceful stand is giving way to hysteria and personal attacks, both on the military who needs to be brought into Constitutional lines, and any supporter who doesn't click their heels in complete and total agreement. I find that incredibly disappointing, because I'm totally in line with the goals of the organization. I assume that since I'm a "traitor to the cause" I'll stop getting the solicitation emails?
I'm a supporter of MRRF. I am a very liberal, almost secular, Jew, and while we can argue whether or not this is the best calendar page to put up, I'm afraid that Mr. Weinstein is showing his own intolerance and yes, even ignorance, this time.
Judaism is a very old religion with a huge amount of religious writings that are referred to all the time. Like it or not, the material provided on the web site is accurate about the history of thought on these relationships. The author is in no way calling for such "remedies". Instead, he is relating what common Jewish traditional thought has been. In any Reform Judaism classes on sexual ethics, I would expect to learn this history.
Additionally, Judaism does not have a hierarchy the way Catholicism does. All Jews are expected to be educated in Judaism (a goal which of course falls short) and one does not have to be a rabbi to provide Jewish education. I can assure you that any responsible rabbi, particularly a traditional or orthodox one, would provide exactly the same information. In fact, if you asked me, a supporter of gay and lesbian rights, I would have given you the same historical information.
Obviously there are thousands of web sites that offer a Jewish calendar. However, I am pretty safe in saying that any web site that offers any education about Judaism is going to have information that people don't like, including modern liberal Jews. Yet to say that this person is promoting these awful historical positions and is the equivalent of Fred Phelps deserves an apology from Mr. Weinstein. A request to have the link changed is one thing. To have such a virulent and over the top reaction to an educational web site offering historical information is very upsetting to me, because it indicates a rather serious lack of discriminating judgement on his part and a serious misreading of the site in question.
