Re: “Utilities employee group picks City Council slate

I take great exception to calling utilities employees trained monkeys – they are trained professionals who make YOUR safety their top priority. They work to provide one of the safest and most reliable gas, electric and water distribution systems in the country. CSU has been nationally recognized for it’s superior performance. And we do this for lower rates than you will find in the area! Ask your neighbors at Excel, Black Hills and Mt View about their rates! They are skilled and dedicated employees – many of whom place their own safety in jeopardy for your comfort. They climb power poles to ensure that your power is restored in record time. These were the public servants who were racing into the Waldo Canyon Fire zone (while everyone else was escaping) to make sure that the gas and electric systems did not contribute to the fire and to make certain that there was enough water to fight the fire. They stood with the fire fighters to save what they could. And when it was all over with they work 16 hour days (even on the 4th of July) to bring customers home – SAFELY- as quickly as possible. They work every day to make this community a safe and great place to live. They provide some of the most delicious water in the country. They are public servants who work for much less than they could earn elsewhere because this is also their home. They are also ratepayers who place the customers first. Because this is a publically owned Utility – we are able to place customers ahead of profits and we take pride in the jobs that we do – in the public interest.
