To Erica, thank you for letting me know that going to the symphony is a REAL reason to dress up and impress others. Silly me thought it was to listen to local musicians play great music. I guess I need to change my reason for going. If you really gain confidence from wearing things that you think will make other people look at you and say, "there goes a well dressed lady", then I feel sorry for you. I would like to think that I would gain confidence from people looking at me and saying, "there goes a really great person, he just did a wonderful act of kindness." Why should I care what you think about the way I dress? You obviously don't care what I think about you. Certainly, there are people that dress in ways that I find weird and occasionally even scary, but to say that they are lazy and have low self confidence really shows your shallowness.
Last summer while I was downtown, a local street person had a seizure a fell to the sidewalk. I was about 40 feet away in a parked car. By the time I got out of my car and to the person, at least three "well dressed business people" walked right by him, one person even went to the trouble of going onto the lawn of the Pioneers museum to avoid getting any closer than 15 feet from him.
