Thank you Siggie! You have demonstrated the complete and utter ignorance of the average citizen across the United States. The author wrote an article based on investigating the facts surrounding a candidate on a short list for the Fire Chief's position. Her concern stems from the potential impact on YOUR community if you hire John Caufield. He has shown a propensity to implement plans, that have grave consequences, without careful consideration or due diligence. He will say and do whatever is necessary to secure a job. Maybe you should consider the effects of outsourcing fire department functions. Or, you can wait for your house to burn down due to inept fire fighters, hired as a way to reduce costs. And then you can sue the city for inadequate fire protection. And don't forget to kick the firefighters that had their pensions reduced, even though they have served your city faithfully.
I also want to set the record straight. I am not a Union lackey. Never have been and never will be. But in your cloud of ignorance and contempt, you fail to see that I bring first hand knowledge and experience in dealing with Caufield. This issue is about hiring a person who has no backbone or conscience. Is that what you want in that position? Should a Mayor with no fire department experience essentially tell the Fire Chief how to run his department based strictly on money? How smart is that? I can tell you it didn't work in Rochester.
Your bias towards Unions remains a mystery. Whatever the reason, your stiff-necked approach to this issue shows me that you will never see the facts, and instead will choose to call people names and blame big bad evil Unions as a way to cover your lack of understanding.
I hope you hire Caufield. You deserve him. And we won't have to look at him any more.
