City Councilor - Ward 1
I know the NRMMS people have put together $5000.00 to run a campaign in our town to try and tell us how to vote!
Maybe, just maybe, Mr. Hass would like to use that $5000.00 to assist the city of Manitou Springs in recouping some of the monies it spent on flood recovery. Monies spent on not only our citizen, but our business owners as well.
That $5000.00 would get us an additional $15,000.00 in matching grant funds . . . how about it NRMMS . . . you want to help support our city or attempt to drive a wedge between us? YOUR CALL!!!
Hello to Bryce Crawford, all the Indy readers, and the citizens of Manitou Springs. Let me start my response by saying that I am sick and tired of OUTSIDERS trying to tell the citizens of our beautiful little town how we should think, act or VOTE!
Yes, I did say OUTSIDERS. What a lot of people don't know is that Mr. Tim Hass, and many of his fellow Petitioner’s on the No Retail Marijuana in Manitou Springs team, are not even citizens of Manitou Springs. Mr. Hass lives high up in the secluded neighborhood of Kissing Camels, in COLORADO SPRINGS, in a beautiful and expensive home. We do appreciate his willingness to business in our town, and we can clearly see how well his businesses have been doing taking in tourist dollars from the tourist that come to OUR town and not Colorado Springs.
However, there is no getting over the fact that Mr. Hass is not a voting member of our community. Therefore, his opinion is irrelevant - plain and simple! Neither Mr. Hass, nor the city government of Colorado Springs, ever asked the citizens of Manitou Springs what their opinion was concerning whether recreational marijuana sales should take place in Colorado Springs. I guess it wasn't any of our business. Well guess what? What we vote on in our community is none of their business either.
Manitou Springs owns land directly across from the Garden of the Gods Trading Post (one of the businesses owned by Mr. Hass). Maybe we should open our own trading post next door? Or how about a combination gift shop/pot shop? Then we can show him and Colorado Springs that tourist dollars and recreational marijuana dollars can both do extremely well, side-by-side, in our neck of the woods - because we don't really care how well they go together in anywhere else!!
I can also add that I talk to every citizen in our town, every chance I get, and I have come to realize that we have some very intelligent, caring, artful, and independent citizens living in our town. And everyone of them LOVES THIS TOWN!
I can assure Mr. Hass, the NRMMS group, the citizens of Colorado Springs; El Paso County, and Teller County that those same intelligent, caring, artful, and independent citizens will quickly tell their city council to rescind every ordinance we passed if they thought, even for one second, that recreational marijuana would harm our town, our citizens, and/or our businesses!!
Kevin "SARGE" Mac Donald II
City Councilman - Ward 1
606 Manitou Avenue
Manitou Springs, CO 80829
PS: - Our citizens have spoken. We live in a society were the majority vote becomes the law of the land. And the majority of our citizens have made it clear that they want recreational marijuana.
