<![CDATA[pdxtrimetrider, the lack of a nearby WalMart means the poor have to spend more money to live. Shopping regularly at WalMart means saving 15% to 20% on monthly grocery bills.

<![CDATA[This post is directed to the person who made a comment. I live, work and go to school in Downtown Portland, and guess what plants in front of stores, friendly people AND the lack of Walmart's in this city (we only have one way out in the burbs) all play an important role in the healthy and happy atmosphere of our community.

<![CDATA[Jess, requiring downtown business owners to keep plants out front of their stores will not solve the problems of narrow streets, badly timed lights, horrible parking and over priced goods. Downtown sucks and I wouldn't shop down there if you held a gun to my head.

<![CDATA[Let's not forget in addition to political support Portland also has support from the business owners to create a pleasant atmosphere in the middle of the city. Downtown Portland business owners are required to enhance the front of their stores with plants.
