No matter the size of the town, sticking to the code will rarely get you in trouble for showing favoritism or for subjective enforcement of the rules; when interpreting employment policies and guidelines, "one size fits all" is exactly as it should be.

Can't believe a deputy is fired for sleeping on the job but let's hope it applies to ALL deputies who are found to be sleeping on the job whether is your regular shift or extra duty (which is handsomely paid) shifts.

Special circumstances; that is an interesting way to view the issues being revealed through these Independent articles. I agree with you on you last statement in terms of how it pertains to how the command staff at the SO needing to do the right thing and talk about what they know about Maketa's conduct, there is more than enough substance there to end any speculation about malfeasance.

I undertand that "big city" people believe in the code "it's business it's not personal" and want to live entirely by the cold hard book of black and white rule, and perhaps that would seem more fair.

The illustrious Lieutenant Lari Sevene, who refused to cooperate in the investigation of her husband, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Corey Sevene, who was booked into the Criminal Justice Center on Domestic Violence-Assault charges after he accused her of having an affair with another Sheriff's Office employee. The same Sergeant Sevene who was allowed to remain as SO supervisor even after his arrest (that special treatment by Presely always helps), but who was recently moved out of his job as the K-9 supervisor for his conduct in yet another conduct unbecoming infraction, and yes, he still has his stripes and is supervising deputies.

No doubt Maketa will go on another rampage of threats when he hears about this, another super secret internal investigation launched, some terrorizing of outstanding employees with threats of firing or demotion (yes Terry everyone knows about it you sniveling bully), maybe some more screaming at the top of your lungs at your legal adviser about why he cannot stop the Evil Zubeck!
