      <![CDATA[The point is that no accrediting board would allow a university to have tenure-track or tenured faculty that do not have terminal degrees (PhD in most cases), but the Academy has been able to get by this requirement because they are a strictly an undergraduate institution. The title of "professor" in most colleges and universities is limited to those with terminal degrees, and those with masters degrees are usually "instructors."

      <![CDATA[Most of the cadets who received well-deserved national scholarships, such as Rhodes and Marshall, have been enrolled in the Scholars Program. Only three percent of the cadet wing is enrolled in the program.

      <![CDATA[I am a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy and I have three sons who have all gone the service academy route: Class of '09 USCGA, Class of '11 USAFA, Class of '13 USCGA. One thing I told all my sons was that at a service academy, ALL of their instructors and professors are there to teach, not pursue their pet research projects, and NO classes would be taught by graduate students who don't even have their Master's yet.

      <![CDATA[As an individual who attended Law School and Grad School after graduating from the Air Force Academy, I can say that based upon my experience, the concern for PHDs and other civilian accruments of academia is misplaced. I attended the Academy from 68 - 72, and I still believe that I was provided one of the best educational experiences available on this planet.

Or: We must change for the sake the change in order to appear like we are "progressing or moving forward". I say;  re-read the first paragraph...questions?<br>

      <![CDATA[Having studied at civilian universities both before and after graduating from USAFA in 1964 I maintain that the knowledge, preparation, and motivational skills of the "junior" officer faculty at the Air Force Academy was superior to their civilian counterparts. The education received by my three sons at Duke, Wake Forest, and Wash. U in St. Louis was comparable, but not better than mine.

      <![CDATA[I was a member of the eleventh graduating class. I was there to learn to fly and fight and it was inspirational to me to have had as classroom instructors many captains, majors and a few colonels who had flown and fought.

      <![CDATA[To help answer a few of the comments below, I would like to note that our research is unable to measure the overall quality of education provided to students at USAFA.  Our studies make relative comparisons across professors within USAFA.  The USAFA administration has been very supportive of the research by providing access to the data and remains committed to using the results to help improve the education they provide to their students.       <![CDATA[What a nice collection of unsubstansiated claims. Zubeck certainly believes that USAFA has an inferior math program, but there’s not one metric that compares the education of gradutated cadets to graduates of other universities.

      <![CDATA[Scott Carrell's work shows that poorly qualified instructors cause persistent harm to cadets' education. Given that the Air Force Academy spends $417,000 to graduate a cadet, it is an outrage that the faculty is not uniformly superb.
