White Rabbit hits the nail on the head for me.

I've voted GOP most of my life, but cannot stomach "the party" since the 1990's when the GOP made a deal with the devil by sucking up to religious neanderthals like the "moral majority" (which is neither) and "christian coalition."

Social issues of bible zealots have no place in our politics and government, but by taking money and votes in exchange for legislation to limit abortions and deny marriage equality, the GOP has cobbled together enough voting blocs to win a lot of elections at the state and/or federal level - to the detriment of all.

I won't vote GOP again until come back to sanity and good sense.

Bush, Cheney, Rove, DeLay, Armey, Graham, et all, and their wealthy backers succeeded very well at getting ever more filthy rich while the GOP held power, but the other 98% of us went downhill. Yep, the PARTY sure succeeded, but our nation flunked - miserably.

@ Dick Clark

The Tea Party Movement that I referenced in the article swept the country in 2009, after Graham Makohoniuk made his famous call for people to send tea bags to Congress.

You are correct, however, that Ron Paul and his supporters began the idea of tea party rallies in 2007. We could have explained that more in detail, sure, but it seems appropriate to view it as a separate phenomenon.
I am not a registered Republican; nor am I part of any party "establishment." I steer clear of party entanglements for reasons that this story makes plain.
