Tannim, I positively hate being put in the position of acting as apologist for Initiative 30, but you all force me to do so -- there is no basis for claiming that it "takes the worst of CA Prop 19" -- what nonsense! Unquestionably, the worst aspect of Proposition 19 was its setting of new, minimum sentences for tranferring cannabis to minors -- Initiative 30 creates no new crimes and sets no penalties.

Initiative 30 takes the worst of CA Prop 19 and Denver SAFER and puts it together into an unrealistic proposal, which is why they need to go back to the drawing board or have it voted down. The intent is good; but the implementation is awful.
MMJ Colorado, unless the Colorado Supreme Court overturns unconstitutional provisions of SB10-109, HB10-1284, and HB11-1043, the prerogatives the People conferred on caregivers eleven years ago are a dead letter -- we have already lost the essence of the Medical Marijuana Amendment (Article XVIII, Section 14). As for your rhetorical questions, they are misdirected -- I support national activism to end Prohibition and recognize that Federal action is necessary.

Pubilious, while you cite a concrete example of how interstate commerce will still constrain cannabis-users, it does not bear on the operation of the criminal law in Colorado -- that is what will be changed. Most enforcement of laws is done by local and state officers, so the changes contemplated will make much use of cannabis here safe and legal by our lights -- the Feds will continue to prey upon people who use cannabis, but there aren't that many of them and the enforcement of Federal law generally does not affect simple possession or cultivation of fewer than 100 plants.

P.S. The ad is not that bad -- we can do better, but here is a coherent message to the majority of voters who do not use cannabis (and in particular, to women, who fear cannabis more than men) that it is time to consider the legalization of cannabis. Even something as tentative as this ad is revolutionary as part of a political campaign on TV.
