I think the magic and luster of the military officer is finally wearing off in the Public's eye thanks to revelations like what this article presents (it has been for a generation in the eye of most enlisted personnel in the military). It is rare for a military officer to have any modicum of humbleness, and the vast majority of these men and women swallowed, from the onset of their training, hook, line, and sinker, this idea they are somehow the cream of the crop of humanity and must wield their power over the simpleton enlisted man. Now, this observation of mine is taken directly from my experience serving in Army combat units where I served honorably and discharged with numerous combat awards and citations (thus my attitude is not from someone who was spurned by the military), so I don't know if that attitude permeates the other branches of the military as it does the Army.
WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? my argument had nothing to do with "well, everyone blew the test off therefore that makes it okay" i said that the premise of the test was flawed, to the point of being demeaning, and therefore most cadets didn't take it seriously.

honestly, what if every single cadet in the wing answered all the questions "perfectly" but lived their lives in complete moral disarray.

It seems that the USAFA-haters have finally realized that the data in the survey IS void, but now they want to draw the same conclusions from the reason WHY the data is void.

USAFA-haters claim that because cadets "skirted their duties" by not taking the test seriously, we all have a serious lack of character, which is what the test was trying to determine in the first place.

first off, our "official duty" was to sit in a room for 50 minutes, whether or not we took the test.

Well, to my surprise dozens more have posted comments to this article in the past week.

I’ve reviewed the comment thread which is approaching 25,000 words.

To me what’s most noteworthy is the toleration of corruption of the USAFA leadership both within the Academy and among the Air Staff.

You’ve got Gould, now superintendent, who bent the rules to get his younger son an appointment by having his wife, Paula Gould, act as her son’s chief official endorser. And he apparently has embroiled himself in a conflict of interest by seeking to become Hans Mueh’s replacement as athletic director while he’s still superintendent.

Both Gould and Born, the Dean, appear to have discriminated against a Mormon instructor because of his religion and authorized or passively endorsed his replacement with an unqualified officer.

Just an interesting question I would like to propose. Does an increase in found honor code violations really indicate a failing of the system?

If graduates consistently report higher numbers of getting away with violations than were convicted, wouldn't a rise in convicted violations imply the system is doing a better job at rooting out and holding those individuals accountable?

Further you have the problem of what do you define as an honor code violation?

I am a recent USAFA grad and I am returning to teach at the Academy in the next few months. I am offended at the outlook on both faculty and cadets presented by this article and many of the comments.

I was curious about the disparity of cadets stating that there were about 16 observations per year (mimicked by Christa Carroll) and Fred Malmstrom’s assertion that there were about 60 observations per data point. Reading about the survey data and analysis in the popular press has severe limitations since journalists are not trained in advanced statistics, no offense to Pam Zubeck.
