Springs Utilities CEO Jerry Forte told the Utility Board this afternoon that increases for the coming two years, 2013 and 2014, likely would be as low as 10 percent.

Utilities spokeswoman Janet Rummel got hold of us to let us know that Forte spilled the beans that Utilities officials previously said wouldn't be disclosed until May.

"Preliminary indications are that the 2015 water rate increases will also be less than originally projected and we may not need further increases to fund completion of the project," Rummel says in an e-mail. "We will be providing a detailed presentation on this at the May Board meeting as you reported, but I wanted to get you the estimated range we are anticipating at this point."
Great news for city parks! The "water bill" is expected to be $2 million this year and won't go up quite as dramatically over the next 5 years given this new projection.
