I've got an idea. Let's put our county offices way up on the northwest part of town so those people most in need of those services must travel 20 miles through a sub standard public transit system to get things like, say, identification to vote.

Attempts by elected officials to remain in office at all costs have a history of being rather ‘problematic’ with Richard Nixon nationally, and Sallie Clark locally with the term limit issue being prime examples. The fact that county clerk and recorder Wayne Williams had to be restrained by the Sec of State and the Courts to prevent his attempt to block Democratic voters (for ‘cost’ reasons) to participate in the primary - - is yet another example of county officials attempting to subtly block voting access?

Establishing the Citadel Mall as the ‘southernmost’ location for voters in the south and southeast districts for early voting: “Blue areas” - - this too is an attempt to prevent what is a traditionally Democrat-heavy area from having equal access?

The rude, arrogant and contemptuous manner in which commissioner Amy Lathen treated a well-respected member of the clergy when he asked the matter of access for his area be addressed is yet another example of a need to look seriously at our officials on election day!

Do you feel the county attempts to ‘manipulate’ districts and polling places – and ballot wording to influence vote outcomes?
