I am an Annapolis grad from the 60's so I can't comment on today, but for me, what I learned at the place has been invaluable and irreplacable. Giving young students early leadership responsibilies, even when they stumble, teaches both the leader and the follower; seeing bad leadership and knowing how it impacts you I found even more valuable to developing a leadership style.

When Bruce Fleming accepted a teaching position at the Naval Academy, was he giving up all of his rights as an American citizen, or just the right to free speech?

Mr. Hente, your English instructors at the academy did you a disservice. For Mr. Fleming to refrain from stating what was really on his mind and pretend to support what he does not believe--that would be hypocrisy.

Let me get this right: Bruce Fleming is more than happy to teach English at the Naval Academy for 25 years and get paid for doing so. But he's also more than happy to criticize the institution that has provided him a living for a quarter century.

There's a word I learned from my English instructors at the Air Force Academy that seems to apply here: hypocrite.
