You may be right about the kitchen. We've seen some amazingly filthy kitchens in lots of mom/pop eateries on the show "Restaurant Impossible" and it could be their's was obsolete or filthy or both.

They were way over priced for a meal your could find for half as much at Texas Road house....and they were rude to boot.

When places close, it is because of the way they did business. Remember the Chinook.
