With Veterans Day approaching, we're reminded that those who have served our country have earned our gratitude.

Are there any stories from your service? On the same day I graduated from Ranger School, we buried our sergeant major, who died from a parachute accident. That's the first thing that comes to my mind.
What's the best thing you've seen done to recognize veterans? Just personal encouragement: people coming up to veterans on the street and saying, "Thank you for your service."
What else would you like society to do to recognize veterans? I wish they'd quit cutting benefits.
Do you feel military service should be required? No, no required enlist — it should stay volunteer. If people are in the military and don't want to be there, then that could be harmful.

When you think of Veterans Day, what comes to mind? That I'm proud to be an American, and thankful to the people who have given their lives for us.
Has anyone in your family ever served? Are there any stories from their service? Yeah, my brother served in Desert Storm, but he doesn't talk about it much.
What's the best thing you've seen done to recognize veterans? I've always loved the parades. I actually just got back from New York City, and the 9/11 memorial was pretty amazing.
What else would you like society to do to recognize veterans? It's hard for me to say. Overall, from my perspective, I think that society has really come a long way to support our troops. I know several people who served in Vietnam, and their treatment was shameful.

When you think of Veterans Day, what comes to mind? My grandfather. And those that I know who are dealing with PTSD.
Has a family member served? My grandfather met my grandmother while serving in Italy, so if it wasn't for his service, I wouldn't be here.
What's the best thing you've seen done to recognize veterans? The support for the soldiers, especially to those who have returned home from combat overseas. I think we could all agree that our way of life, from filling up a car with gasoline [to a] ride on petroleum-based tires for our bicycles, needs to be recognized and given thanks to.
What else would you like society to do to recognize veterans? What's important to me is to continually increase the awareness and transparency as to why we are [in Afghanistan].
