Beautiful, as in Omaha 

Beautiful, as in Omaha A recent Harper's Magazine story depicts Colorado Springs as about as beautiful as Omaha, but with mountains. Meanwhile, the city is gearing up to launch an "urban renewal project" along North Nevada Boulevard. When finished, one planner says, the stretch will resemble North Academy Boulevard (for more, read the cover story beginning on page 17). Is this progress?

The downtown area with all the small shops and coffeehouses. It's comfortable and it has charm. What would you like to see happen to the North Nevada area up toward I-25? A neighborhood-friendly environment with trees and growing things. Strip malls and slap-dash architecture have no character or quality.

Definitely the downtown - area - near Acacia Park, but also Palmer Park and the hills - outside Manitou. -  Is Colorado Springs on the way to - being more beautiful or more ugly? Thats a hard - one.  I - lived here for 10 years, and I was pretty stoked to leave - when I went away to college. Id say its still more - beautiful than ugly, but its becoming more and more - ugly with all the sprawl. - What future do you prefer for - the upper reaches of North Nevada Avenue? A - parkway - of some kind. A place with walkways, a place where - people could ride bikes.
