One year ago, Jay Fawcett was the hottest name in local politics. Dale Chihuly, to many locals, was the Fine Arts Center. And Troy Tulowitzki ... wasn't he that grubby kid with the Space Ace T-shirt from your second-grade class?

The point: A lot can change in a year's time. So get ready for some surprises in your 2007 Best Of Colorado Springs voting.

This week, we're treating you to your choices in the categories of food and drink. Next week will be a catch-all for your favorite stores, people and other local attractions.

We've changed the format of this year's guide, so pay attention. Winners' lists, which name the top three vote-getters in each category, are up front. The page numbers you see on those lists will direct you to write-ups of all first-place winners.

A shout-out to this year's writers: Deb Acord, Edie Adelstein, Kirsten Akens, Pete Freedman, Frances Gomeztagle, Angela Grosshans, Anthony Lane (AL), Linda Lewis, Amanda Lundgren (ALL), Monika Mitchell Randall, Christina A. Roller, Ralph Routon, Matthew Schniper, Carrie Simison-Bitz, J. Adrian Stanley, Terry Terrones, Jill Thomas, David Torres-Rouff and Kirk Woundy.

Other thanks go to those tourists pictured to the right, immortalized in a photo they'll probably never see. And most sincerely, thanks to everyone who voted. These are your issues. Hats off to you and this year's winners.
