A first class, spacious, challenging skateboard park
We owe it to the kids we've kicked out of every urban space that's covered with concrete. First we pulled up the platform at Acacia Park and replaced it with grass. Then the city held a meeting to placate displaced skaters. They raised their voices: We want a skateboard park in the center of the city, Monument Park maybe or Memorial Park, they told us. They gave us ideas for a dream design. Then the city put a small, functional park in the already funded Goose Gossage Sports Complex. Meanwhile, up in Manitou Springs, neighbors went ballistic over a proposed skateboard park there. It's time to deliver -- a big, roomy, spacious, skateboard park with competitive features. A place to train and compete. A place to celebrate skateboarding instead of outlawing it. (KCE)
