City Council

John Kenneth Galbraith once wrote a book titled The Liberal Hour. He defined the liberal hour as that rare time in politics when reasonable men and women lower their voices, work together and solve problems. Think about it; maybe that's what we've got right now at City Hall. A council that realizes more roads won't solve our every problem. A mayor who briskly declares, "The mayor's office is not a church." Sure, they can still be obtuse, but, hey, we're talking local government here, folks. And even at their very worst, they're better than the state Legislature on a good day. Now, if we could just figure out how to promote one or two of 'em to the Statehouse. Are you listening, Randy Purvis? (JH)
