Beyond Pop Art: A Tom Wesselmann Retrospective

When: July 13-Sept. 21 2014

Tom Wesselmann's expansive career has all the ingredients of a typical Pop Art player — beautiful women, sunglasses and cigarettes, shiny cars, white bread — but the artist was reluctant to associate himself with the term. Hence, the traveling exhibit Beyond Pop Art: A Tom Wesselmann Retrospective, that opened Sunday at the Denver Art Museum (100 W. 14th Avenue Pkwy., Denver, denverartmuseum.org). With approximately 100 pieces, including the 26-foot long "Still Life #60" and the 2,000-pound "Screen Star," Beyond demonstrates Wesselmann's development as an artist. Through Sept. 14; free for members, $8 to $13 for nonmembers. Edie Adelstein
