Culinary crumbs and gastronomic gossip

Fat tires and bagels have this much in common: They're round with holes. Deep. On that note, Olde World Bagels & Deli is hosting its first Tour de Bagel from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., on May 18 and 19, in honor of National Ride Your Bike to Work Day and to celebrate its new northern location.

Three routes start at Olde World's 1670 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd. shop and end at the new place, at 6628 Delmonico Drive. "The River Route" takes cyclists up Fountain and Monument creeks; "The Beeline Route" heads directly up Nevada Avenue, and "The Westside Route" roams through Old Colorado City and Garden of the Gods en route to Centennial and Rockrimmon boulevards.

A $10 fee buys a breakfast sandwich at the southern location and a lunch sandwich at the finish. Information is available at oldeworldbagel.com or 527-9651.

End zone

Will's Sports Pub (424 S. Nevada Ave.) has added a patio dining area in back. The fenced area now holds roughly 25 people at five tables. Owner Will Pelz jokes that "it's not as nice as Oscar's patio ... but at least people have a place to smoke again."

More at steak

Along with its extensive menu, Antonio's Italian Restaurant (301 Garden of the Gods Road) is serving Ranch Foods Direct steaks. Owners John and Carolyn Miller are developing "an Italian steakhouse" as they beef up the menu to celebrate Antonio's 20th anniversary as an independent. Visit antoniosital.com or call 531-7177.

Now taste this

Riesling and Gewurztraminer will be featured at the Wednesday Wine Tasting, 6:30 p.m., May 23, at The Blue Star (1645 S. Tejon). A $20 bill buys five samples served with light tapas and a tutorial. May 30 and June 6 will highlight New Zealand offerings. Call 632-1086 or visit thebluestar.net.

Wine in Margaritaville

The Margarita at PineCreek (7350 Pine Creek Road) is hosting winemaker Jeff Stultz from the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey at 6:30 p.m. on May 17 for a "Colorado-inspired" dinner of several courses, paired with Abbey wines. The cost is $60 plus tax and gratuity. Reserve a seat at 598-8667.
