Box office mojo

Street Smarts

The holiday film season is upon us, with the accompanying Oscar buzz and even ceremony-hosting controversy. But has the economy taken some fun out of going to the movies? And how many really great (or even good) flicks are out there?

Is there a movie coming out that you're excited about? Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Immortals.

Any reason in particular? I'm a fan of Greek literature; I always liked the story of Theseus, and I like Mickey Rourke.

How often do you go to the movies? I used to go monthly, but now I can't afford it because I want the whole experience, the snacks and everything. Now I probably only go once every four to six months, or if it's something I really want to see.

What are your favorite genres? I like fantasy, science fiction and documentaries.

What's the most recent movie you've seen? The Help. I loved it.

Did you read the book? Yes, first I read the book, then I saw the movie; I thought the movie did the book justice. I cried, I laughed, and seeing the movie definitely generates conversation afterward, with people I know and people I work with.

So you'd recommend the movie? By all means. It's great, and I like feel-good movies.

When is the last time you went to the movies? About three months ago, to see Transformers.

Are you looking forward to any new releases? No, not really.

What kind of movies do you like to watch, and do you have any favorite actors or actresses ? No, I'm a guy. I like action and comedy, but I don't have any favorite actors or actresses.

Are you looking forward to watching the Academy Awards next February? No, I never watch them.

What's the last movie you went to see? True Grit.

The original with John Wayne, or the newer one with Jeff Bridges? The new one.

What did you think? I loved it. It was really gripping. Another good one is The Missing, with Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett.

How often do you go to the movies? I usually wait until it comes out on DVD, because I don't like to go to the movies alone. But I will go to the theater to see Immortals.
