Butterflies at Chatfield

When: Through early October.

So far, this summer's been awash in dark, weird people stuff — Gaza, the Hobby Lobby decision, ISIS, Ukraine, and America's folly-filled mid-term elections. Let us, then, prescribe a powerful antidote: some sunny hours spent in the bosom of butterflies. This homo-sapiens-free oasis, brought to you by the Butterfly Pavilion and Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield and open daily through early October, will soothe your battered soul with an explosion of Colorado native plants touched by a flutter of color in motion. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; tickets run $4 to $6 (cheaper for members, and free for babes in arms 2 and younger); and you should point the car toward 8500 West Deer Creek Canyon Road in Littleton (tiny.cc/52h5ix).
