It's possible that you have seen Laura Reilly's work. Perhaps a neighbor has one of her vivid still lifes hanging in the dining room. Maybe you have perused the walls of Gertrude's restaurant, over on the West Side, and admired Reilly's bright floral compositions or her soothing waterscapes.
Reilly's light hand with oils is one of the artistic treasures of our painter-rich community. Expert in the ways of color and light, Reilly transforms canvases into living, breathing landscapes, large and small.
This Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28 and 29, Reilly will open her studio/gallery for a combination show, sale and "belated happy new year" gathering. Her original oil paintings will be on display, as will be custom and ready-made hand-gilded frames by Elecia Gonzalez of the new frame shop, All Dimensions.
"Elecia's mom is doing the food, so it'll be really good," said Reilly. "I want to introduce people to [Elecia's] work and mine, and I want people to just come over, see the studio and have a sort of post-holiday, settled-into-winter event to celebrate the new year with us."
Frames will be available for purchase in standard sizes, and custom orders will be taken, so bring your unframed art. Reilly has recently showcased her paintings, some done on southern El Paso County's Chico Basin Ranch, in Gonzalez's gilded frames, and the result is stunning -- shimmering oils lighted by the reflection of soft gold.
Reilly will have new works on display, including some of her delicate plein-air studies, paintings generally done on location to capture nature's fleeting light effects.
