I don't - believe it, but I understand where it comes from: Rita - Rudner and Elaine Boosler. Relying on abrasive - personalities and jokes about how men "don't ask for - directions," theirs was a shrewish, "you-go-girlfriend!" - mind frame that "sassy" aunts who forward e-mails with - "Why Chocolate is Better Than Men" in the subject header - would find funny. But times have changed. The past - decade has seen a renaissance of female comedians, and - at the head of this table is Sarah Silverman. Need proof? - Watch Jesus Is Magic, a refreshingly obscene, - "kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out affair," from the - hypocrisy of Jews who drive German-made cars to - positive spins on AIDS and 9/11. Jesus may be - magic, but Sarah Silverman is a comedy messiah. - Louis Fowler

A hulking, mulleted bodyguard - named Brock Samson. Two dorky twin sons named Hank - and Dean who are usually more trouble than they're - worth. Together they form the best (and most - underrated) show in the already-brilliant "Adult Swim" - line-up (on Cartoon Network). Creating a perverse, anti- - Jonny Quest adventure series that is not only - continually hilarious, but a continually genius parody on - the archetypical Hanna-Barbara conventions, The - Venture Bros. may take an episode or two to fully - "get," but by the last cliffhanger, "Return to Spider-Skull - Island," wherein the twins are blown to bits, you'll - impatiently be craving the next season. click to enlarge The Little Shop of Horrors (in - Color) (NR) - - - Directed by Roger Corman - - Legend Films - - Never resting on their laurels though they could - Legend Films go all out on this re-issue, the 1960 Roger - Corman z-classic The Little Shop of Horrors. - Primarily known as the inspiration for the later musical - (as well as for an early appearance by a young Jack - Nicholson), this remastered film has never looked better - or been more watchable. No more jumps and glitches - from the old GoodTimes budget video for me! You know - the story: On Skid Row, young Seymour creates a - bloodthirsty plant named Audrey Jr., which has an - insatiable need for human flesh. Already darkly comic - (and way ahead of its time), this DVD is enriched with a - commentary by the one and only Mike Nelson, he of - MST3K fame. PS: Stick around for the "Man-Eating - Plants." They're truly horrifying. Louis - Fowler
