Once kicked out of the hospital for having no - money, he makes a trek out to the woods, coming upon - one damaged woman after another, until finally, he's - driven into apocalypse on a deserted beach. Is it real? Is - it a dream? Is he dead? Just like director Ishii's Blind - Beast vs. Killer Dwarf, the seemingly linear plot - devolves beautifully into a landscape of harsh, - psychedelic surreality, mixing the psychosexual with the - psychotic in a way few people can. While multiple - viewings will be needed to decipher the whole thing, it's - completely worth it. Louis Fowler

click to enlarge The Devil's Rain (PG) - - - Directed by Robert Fuest - Dark Sky Films / Release date: Oct. - 31 - - Shatner. Borgnine. Lupino. Skerritt. Travolta. Satan. It's - pretty much the greatest cast ever put together for one - film. It's the kind of cast that, if I were to ever make a - movie, I'd be immediately inclined to seek. Add to this - the fact that The Devil's Rain deals with the '70s - scare of the rise of Satanism (Anton LaVey is credited as - a consultant), and you have a horror-cheese scare classic - that confirms this time as the most fertile for horror - filmmakers. Rain's piece de resistance is its - ultra-gooey, super-smooshy ending, which will always - stand as a testament to make-up effects over CGI. A - Shatner-tastic, hell-burnin', Baphometic time for all! - Louis Fowler

click to enlarge Galaxina: The 25th Anniversary - Special Edition (R) - - Directed by William Sachs - Deimos/BCI Eclipse - - Galaxina is a decidedly goofy, almost lame - (Captain Butt, anyone?) sci-fi spoof that is completely - charming and endearing. It also happens to be the last - film that 1980 Playboy Playmate of the Year - Dorothy Stratten made before she was murdered by her - psycho husband. She is perfectly gorgeous as the titular - android with feelings, exuding an unattainable sexiness - that proves why she was so lauded and mythologized. - Twenty-five years later, I kinda even find myself smitten. - Thanks, Galaxina! In addition, Deimos' reissue is - just beautiful, with a clean print and a plethora of special - features, including numerous scenes from the - international version. Louis Fowler
