Wedding Daze, Weird Science: The Complete Seasons 1 and 2, Die and Let Live

click to enlarge Wedding Daze (R) MGM - Home Entertainment You are cordially invited - to see the utter demise of Jason Biggs' career and not - a moment too soon. Hopefully he'll drag director Michael - Ian Black (and his notoriously dry smarm) along with - him. If the straight-to-video release of this romantic - comedy travesty is any indication, it looks like we're on - the right track. Biggs is, like always, a lovable loser. - Here, his fiance dies, leaving him a comical mess. - Trying to break the spell, he proposes to the next girl he - meets, who happens to be a horribly wasted Isla Fisher. - It's very easy to see why this bypassed theaters: It's the - same old, pseudo-quirky, romantic mish-mash you've - seen a billion times, minus any and all laughs. It's God- - awful tedium that has me calling for an immediate - annulment. Say "I don't" to this one. Louis - Fowler

click to enlarge Weird Science: The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (NR) - A&E Home Video Yes, the - much-beloved (and much-maligned) John Hughes - horny-teen sci-fi flick Weird Science was made, - belatedly, into a TV show in the early '90s. It was - broadcast on USA Network, so I'll hardly be surprised if - you missed it. Much like the film, nerds Gary and Wyatt - create the ultimate dream girl, Lisa, on their computer - and, every week, she grants them a new wish. It's not the - greatest show ever on TV, but it is surprisingly - entertaining and holds up well. As a special treat, Lee - Tergesen, who would later go on to be repeatedly - sodomized in Oz, takes over for Bill Paxton in - the role of Chett. Sure, the effects are cheesy and there's - always a lesson to be learned at the end of the episode, - but it's also good, clean, reinvented fun. - Louis Fowler

click to enlarge Die and Let Live (NR) Heretic - Films It's amazing that, with little to no - money, a handful of friends are able to make one of the - best zombie films I've seen in a long time. It's filled with - hilarious jokes and enough gut-gnashing to keep gore- - hounds happy, and I'd rather watch Die and Let Live - than any of Hollywood's recent zombie releases, - twice-over. When two teens, the lovelorn Benny and the - chunky party-dude Smalls, try to throw a party, a - zombie outbreak occurs. This shoves a wrench in their - well-thought-out plans to score with chicks, have a - killer blowout and get a slice of pizza. The zombies - attack, and the laughs never stop as the duo tries to - make sense out of the whole thing. The DVD also - features some funny commentary, deleted scenes and - outtakes. This is real indie cinema, and it deserves to be - seen. Louis Fowler
