District 11 School Board Treasurer Eric Christen has expressed such relentless rancor toward the district's schools, teachers and board colleagues that he now faces a possible official letter of reprimand by his fellow board members. Next month, Doug Bruce, who was elected to a public office overseeing government, which he hates, will join his esteemed colleagues at the dais at the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners. Things are getting fun around here.

What does Bruce's ascendancy to the BOCC bode for El Paso County? The Falcon school district recently tried to pass a bond issue to build schools to alleviate overcrowding. It was undercut by negative fliers sent out by Bruce, who has no kids in the district or connection to it other than not liking taxes.
Is Christen correct that D-11 teachers are failing D -11 students? I don't know enough about D-11 or Christen to answer that, but I think teachers in general are doing the best job possible in a difficult situation.
Has education improved or degenerated in recent decades? I don't have children in school, so I haven't had a young mind to watch learn, but I think the technology has gotten better and students have more tools than ever at their fingertips.

What's in store with Bruce on the BOCC? I'm hoping his outrageousness causes the other board members to become more moderate in response.
Is Christen more out to improve or to undercut public education? I think he has a religious-based agenda and a personal bug up his butt about public education. He behaves like he's the D-11 board and the other members are the problem.
Is he right to assert that some D-11 schools harm their students? I think the kids are learning, but they need to be learning a lot of things besides just science and math -- things like arts and music and skills for living in society.

What's in store with Bruce on the BOCC? He'll bring a lot of negative energy to the board and shoot down anything good for the county that requires tax monies.
What's with Christen's declaration of war on the D -11 School Board? His agenda is to torpedo public education as a way to advance vouchers to private schools. He needed a soapbox, and he's using the D-11 board as that soapbox. I was an election judge at North Middle School when Christen put up illegal yard signs on Election Day, and I witnessed him tell a janitor that his job was on the line if he removed the signs.
Are D-11 teachers failing the students, as Christen asserts? I tutor reading at Taylor Elementary, and a D-11 teacher lives across the street from me. From everything I see, teachers put in long hours and do an excellent job.
