After both Vice President Martin Herrera and Director Linda Mojer resigned from the Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education in July to move out of state, the rest of the D-11 board was forced to conduct a process to appoint their successors.
From 13 applicants, the board chose Mary Coleman and Shawn Gullixson to serve until the next election in November 2017.
Coleman works for Centura Health, where she is manager of government affairs for Colorado and Kansas. She also serves on the boards of several medical and hospital councils, and on the Pikes Peak Library District board. The mother of one D-11 child, Coleman has received several awards and recognitions, including being named a Top 40 Under 40 young professional by the Independent's sister publication, the Colorado Springs Business Journal.
Gullixson works as Vectra Bank's retail market lead and vice president. He has volunteered or served as a committee member for Colorado Springs Rising Professionals, the Mayor's Young Leaders Awards Committee and the Council of Neighbors and Organizations' Neighbor Up Week Committee. The father of two children who attend D-11 schools, Gullixson has won multiple awards, and has been nominated for the ColoradoBiz magazine's Gen XYZ Top Young Professional under 40 for the state of Colorado.
