Dear Mr. Bush:
There's been no shortage of discourse regarding the conservative policy wonk flavor of the moment: state-sponsored marriage boosterism.
Proponents of these initiatives often site studies showing that children from married households are healthier emotionally, socially and financially than those from single-parent homes. I don't have the expertise to weigh in one way or the other; what I do have is a personal agenda.
I've found that when one bolsters his or her argument with studies from credible sounding intuitions like your own, it adds a gravitas absent from other rhetorical strategies like whining, screaming and breaking tableware.
I want to be married -- soon. So I'm wondering what political trees I need to bark up in order to have a study commissioned that would highlight the benefits of being married -- not in aggregate terms -- but to me specifically.
Additionally, I'd like a study that would show actress Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, About a Boy) the benefits of marriage to me, and not some executive producer who happens to fly his own plane.
Any advice you might offer would be appreciated.
