Culinary crumbs and gastronomic gossip

The summertime dinner-and-a-movie series at Margarita at PineCreek (7350 Pine Creek Road) begins Friday, June 1, with Brando classic The Freshman. Each weekly showing starts at about 8:30, and customers can enjoy Margarita's signature three- or five-course dinner ($27 or $35), graze on the new gourmet bar menu or try the movie menu, themed to fit each film and priced according to ingredients. Chef Eric Viedt says he'll watch each film ahead of time to brainstorm the "quirky" menus. He advises arriving early. Call 598-8667 or visit margaritaatpinecreek.com.

Peel and eat

Culpepper's Louisiana Kitchen (8810 N. Union Blvd.) is hosting "Live Louisiana Crawfish Boils" at 5, 6:30 and 8 on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings until the end of crawfish season, typically late June. For $35 a person, plus tax and gratuity, get all you can eat including sides, with limited alcohol and unlimited soft drinks and tea. For reservations, call 282-8479.

Fill the basket

Steaksmith (3802 Maizeland Road) is hosting a benefit dinner for Care and Share Food Bank from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, June 4. A $50 bill $25 of which goes directly to the organization buys wine, appetizer, soup or salad, choice of entre and dessert. Call 596-9300 to reserve a seat and 579-8785 for more information.

Don't stop there

Rally for one more night on the town to benefit Care and Share. With "Dine Out Against Hunger," Bambino's Pizzeria and Sports Bar, Brooklyn Italian Kitchen, Cheyenne Mountain Resort, Conway's Red Top, Cy's Drive-In, Honey Baked Ham, The Hub Car Wash and Diner and local Old Chicago restaurants will all donate a portion of their June 5 sales to the organization.

Make it a Rockey

It's rare a work by Manitou's Charles Rockey goes up for bid. That's reason enough to attend the Mineral Springs Foundation Vintners Dinner and Art Auction at 6 p.m., Friday, June 1, at Briarhurst Manor (404 Manitou Ave.). In addition to other local artists' works, the event features music and chef Lawrence Johnson's menu, built to match wines from a handful of vineyards whose representatives will be on hand. Cost is $60, plus tax and gratuity. Call 685-5089 for information.
