When: Sun., May 12, 3 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

The problem with Mother's Day is that you have to jump onboard early. Reserve your table at a restaurant, buy your tickets for this or that — it's a busy time. That makes our calendar (and you slackers) up a holiday without a gift, or what have you. Here then, are two last-minute ideas. Try the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center (201 S. Fairview St., Woodland Park, rmdrc.com), where mothers get in free with one paid adult or child admission. Check out the working paleontology lab and the center's 17-foot Xiphactinus fossil, one of the largest of these carnivorous swimmers ever found. Or perhaps she'd prefer the song cycles of Robert Schumann, performed by Colorado College faculty — including tenor Daniel Fosha — in a free recital at 3 p.m. at CC's Packard Hall (5 W. Cache La Poudre St., coloradocollege.edu). — Edie Adelstein
