Armed with a Christmas-morning gift load and momentum from The Baroque World of Fernando Botero, the FAC promises impressive future programming. Under president and CEO Sam Gappmayer, the museum will address a broader scope of the humanities with each show, says curator Blake Milteer. Expect theater productions, community art classes, lectures, film screenings and more to be linked thematically to FAC exhibits.
Starting in December with NASA | ART: 50 Years of Exploration, an exhibit featuring artwork from the Smithsonian Institution dealing with the themes of space and exploration, Milteer has scheduled lectures with Denver artist Monica Aiello and David Grinspoon, curator of astrobiology from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. He hopes to book an astronaut to speak and to organize trips to the U.S. Air Force Academy's planetarium, "tying and contextualizing the art component to a larger audience," says Milteer.
NASA | ART demonstrates a theme built from a pre-determined show. The staff, however, is in the process of creating a master program built around a theme of conflict and resolution for next March.
