True love is a beautiful thing. True love that results in hip-hop is a beautiful thing with a great soundtrack.

Local duo Samir and Aja have been making music for a while now, both individually (she in Florida, he in the Springs with Accumen) and together. Though their most recent project is 11-week-old Isabelle, the two have also released a mix CD of sorts, Putting In Work. Available at Independent Records, the disc proves the great promise of Samir and Aja.

Diverse, well-constructed beats provide the backdrop to chill and often amusing rhymes from both. Samir describes the sound as "soulful," adding that awareness and positivity influence their lyrics.

"I like my lyrics to be natural, about everyday life. Keep it simple," he says. "I'm not one of those guys who try to find all kinds of crazy words. Well, I used to, but now I focus on harmonizing, things like that."

Samir and Aja have begun work on a second album, with four songs already in the can. They join fellow rappers Distrakt, StillCatchinWreck and Archetypes, as well as DJ Prominent and DJ Skip Ripkin at the Feedback 2 MC battle.
