Feelings on film

Street Smarts

The influence of movies becomes apparent in stories that have stuck with us, ones we wish would come unstuck, our fascination with celebrities' lives and more.

Kata Cook of Stetson Hills works in food services

What's the strangest movie you've ever seen? The Human Centipede. That's the weirdest movie I've seen in my whole life. I couldn't even sit through the whole thing. The person who came up with that had to have some issues. Don't eat while you're watching it.

Describe the biggest movie geek you've ever known. Actually, that would be me. I used to own over 700 movies. I've watched all the strange movies that people have never heard of before.

Would you trade your life as it is now for that of a movie star? Absolutely not. I'd rather be happy and not have as much money than have that much money and have paparazzi running after me all the time. It ruins relationships. Everyone sees what happens every day with movie stars, and it's really sad.

Mia Flores of Falcon is a FedEx delivery person

What is your first memory of watching a movie as a child? I think Free Willy. I wanted to be a whale trainer. ... It didn't happen.

Would you trade your life as it is now for that of a movie star? No. I'm very realistic and I actually like working for my money. I enjoy what I do, I like dealing with people, and they become a daily part of your life.

Why do you think movies have such a hold on people? Romantic people, obviously, like romantic movies. It's hope for them, to have faith.

Describe the biggest movie geek you've ever known. Probably my ex-boyfriend. God, a new movie would come out and he's right there waiting at the movie theater, expecting me to be there with him.

Robert Bacon of downtown is retired military

Would you trade your life as it is now for that of a movie star? Yeah, I would. I'd be like Keanu Reeves. He gives away all his money and only keeps just enough to get by. I wouldn't indulge. I would just live an easy life and make movies for people.

What's your first memory of watching a movie as a child? Disney movies, like Aladdin and The Lion King. As a kid, seeing those movies and the music — those give kids real happiness, unlike movies now.

What's the strangest movie you've ever seen? Antichrist. It's strange to break someone's balls and hold him captive and still have sex with him.

Why do you think movies have such a hold on people? Everyone is just sucked into media and they'll just do whatever's out there, whatever's cool, like mindless sheep. I think the whole "hope" thing died 20 or 30 years ago.
