Joe Uveges has charmed local audiences with his smooth vocals, thoughtful lyrics and crisp acoustic guitar for many years. Now comes Joe's new CD, Promise of Portage, the pick of a crop of some 50 original songs, formed into what the songwriter calls a "songology" that celebrates the Jungian notion of "reclaiming the feminine."
The CD was recorded in Asheville, N.C., and local fans can attend the CD release concert this Sunday, Jan. 25 at the First Congregational Church, 10 E. St. Vrain, at 7 p.m. Accompanying Uveges will be Steve Hoke on fiddle and pedal steel guitar, Mark Smith on percussion, Jen Griffin on keyboard and Phil Volan on guitar. Susan Rissman will provide vocal backup.
Promise of Portage is a beautifully produced CD that marks a new turn for Uveges to more rhythmically sophisticated and emotionally complex compositions than he has ventured in the past. Folk and acoustic fans who haven't discovered him yet should take advantage of this chance to hear his new work. And those who've followed his musical progression over the years, well, give Joe a big hand on Sunday. He deserves it.
