Not to be confused with Atlanta rapper J. Futuristic or L.A. collective Odd Future, emcee Futuristic comes straight out of Mesa, a Phoenix suburb better known for its championship golf courses than its hip-hop history. Despite geographical disadvantages, the early-20-something rapper has gotten a big assist from Dizzy Wright, whose appearance on Futuristic's "Don't Mind If I Do" single helped him rack up well over a million views on YouTube. At this point, Futuristic's delivery may lag behind his crowd-pleasing lyrics (e.g. "Bangin' on my chest after I fuck just like orangutans"), but collaborator A.K.T. Aktion's distinctive production makes up for it, at least on record. After opening for Wright's 2013 Golden Age Tour, Futuristic is back tonight headlining the all-ages Black Sheep (2106 E. Platte Ave., on a marathon bill with DJ Kode Break, Devvon Terrell, Demrick, Dezil Porter, Dubz, and Raymond Writer. Doors open at 8, tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. — Bill Forman
