Make a list and check it twice, because the holiday concert season is upon us and Santa, Hannukah Harry, the Kwanzaa bear and other holiday mascots have a little bit of something lined up for everyone.

For the second time in as many years, The Colorado Springs Conservatory and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs under conductor Thomas Wilson, have teamed up to present the one-act opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, which tells the inspirational story of a crippled shepherd boy who discovers the joy of giving. With Mayor Lionel Rivera, members of the Boys and Girls Club, and various local notables scheduled to make cameo appearances, this collaborative effort promises to truly be a community event. Amahl, which is free and open to the public, will run for a total of eight performances all across the Pikes Peak Region from Shove Chapel on the Colorado College Campus to Fort Carson's Special Events Center, UCCS's Bon Vivant Theater, Focus on the Family and Sturman Industries in Woodland Park. Care and Share will be on hand to accept donations at each performance venue.

The award-winning Colorado Springs Children's Chorale, which can always warm a room with its angelic singing, will also be busy this holiday season. On Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Pikes Peak Center, the Children's Chorale will present traditional carols, popular Christmas favorites and even a vocal arrangement of Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Featuring all five choirs that make up the Chorale, the 'Tis the Season: Home for the Holidays concert will also feature a requisite appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

On Friday, Dec. 12, the Chorale returns to the Pikes Peak Center for the 17th annual performance of their Christmas family favorite, Deck the Halls. Conducted by Don Jenkins, the 120-member vocal ensemble will be joined by a brass band, percussion, piano and an organ in a lively jaunt across a wide variety of holiday favorites, culminating in a performance of John Rutter's "Gloria." Expect to hear standards, jazz and traditional carols, all staged with the sort of cozy holiday charm that could pass for a scene in an idyllic Norman Rockwell painting.

And finally, if nothing says Christmas quite like hot apple cider and classical music, the Da Vinci Quartet has just the thing for you. The famed local quartet will present classics by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Arcangelo Corelli and George Handel on Thursday, Dec. 11 at Shove Chapel and on Sunday, Dec. 14 at Grace Episcopal Church.
