Hell hath no boundary

Business is good in Manitou Springs for Nelson Rufran. "Better every year," in fact.

Ruffrano's Hell's Kitchen Pizza (9 Ruxton Ave., ruffranoshellskitchenpizza.com) will turn 5 next month, and neighboring Ruffrano's Heavenly Squeeze Oxygen & Juice Bar has been humming along since mid-2013.

Now, Rufran — who trained at the original Hell's Kitchen Pizza in New York City — has opened a second Hell's Kitchen Pizza in the former The Front location, 1670 E. Cheyenne Mountain Road, Suite E.

"I was looking to do another one, and this was a good opportunity to take the lease, and buy all the equipment," he says. Noting the potential for more locations in coming years, he adds, "Like anything else, the more you do, the better you get."

Ruffrano's menu largely remains the same, except for the addition of weekend pasta specials that will lead to a full pasta menu later. Each Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday, Rufran makes a single pasta plate, such as lasagna or chicken Parmesan.

Faithful Manitou customers may notice a slight difference in the pizza texture here, as the new location uses a part-wood, part-gas oven, which makes the dough "a little fluffier," in Rufran's estimation.

By way of a makeover, Rufran pulled down the former wall separating the front area from the rear (hence "The Front"), forming one longer dining room, with four TVs on which he'll put the NFL package. A liquor license should come in 2016.

Coffee talk

Morning Glory Espresso (101 Fontaine Blvd., Widefield, morninggloryespresso.biz) celebrates its third anniversary from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, with a cupcake competition, community market and more.

• The Colorado Springs Caffeine Crawl (caffeinecrawl.com) takes place between 2 and 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, offering four different route options for $25 each. Six coffee spots plus Radiantly Raw Chocolate are participating, with each handing out samples and providing a brief presentation.

Brews News

• Four-year-old Pikes Peak Brewing (1756 Lake Woodmoor Drive, Monument, pikespeakbrewing.com) just expanded distribution to further corners of Colorado. To enable the growth, the outfit has increased its brewing capacity by 54 percent, adding two new fermenters (a 40- and 20-barrel) and a 40-barrel brite tank. It's also welcomed a new brewer, Alan Windhausen, to the staff

Edelweiss Restaurant (34 E. Ramona Ave., edelweissrest.com) will host a three-day Summerfest in the lot across from the eatery, between Aug. 14 and 16 (4-9 p.m., Friday; noon to 10 p.m., Saturday; noon to 8 p.m., Sunday). Representatives from Paulaner will pour traditional German beers from a company truck, alongside live music (Saturday only), children's activities, and vending from the restaurant.
