Best Of 2013: Local/Regional Restaurant Chain
No longer do north-enders have to suffer the perils of I-25 to enjoy the goodness of Il Vicino. With the addition of the University Village location, they can more conveniently indulge in the wood-fired pizza goodness and glorious local brews for which Il Vicino is known. The long lines are worth the stacked Da Vinci's capocollo ham, artichoke hearts and Portobello mushrooms in a bed of mozzarella and marinara. Just grab a napkin to dab the drool while you wait. — Nathaniel Kelley
Though it spans 10 locations across three states, Il Vicino maintains a mostly non-corporate vibe and local feel, with fantastic wood-oven pizzas and good craft beers shipped from the Albuquerque brew hub. The Pizza Margherita is simple beauty next to a pint.
Il Vicino removed its in-house brewery several years ago to make room for more tables, a sign of demand for its delectable wood-oven pizzas, delicious panini and heaping salads. Oh yeah — and that beer, now brewed elsewhere for them. Voted co-Best Local/Regional Restaurant Chain, this outfit will earn your love.
