Introduction
A quick glance at the Indy's music issue may give the impression that the state of music in Colorado Springs is bleak. You'll find tales of two artists who've moved away, in search of a brighter spotlight. Another story spends time with a talent who tried to put the area on a musical map in the '90s, but plays in a cover band today.
Not to be dismissed, however, is our coverage on a pair of organizations trying to create a dynamic, creative scene both of which are making energetic impressions.
But the venues and the musicians do not stand alone. Ultimately, the community will determine their success or failure. So seek the great music found in the nooks and crannies of our city. Go to shows. Buy local CDs. Start a band. Colorado Springs may never be Memphis, but with support, imagination and a little faith, it will continue to get better.
