IQ: Architecture Talk

We live in them, love in them, work in them and worship in them. They -- literally -- bring structure to our lives. So we thought we'd ask what you thought of the buildings that make up Colorado Springs.

What's your favorite building in Colorado Springs? I think I kind of like the old Catholic church near here -- St. Mary's Cathedral.
What building do you think is the ugliest? Probably, the parking garages. There's nothing attractive about them. They're just layers of cement with space in between.
What building deserves our protection? I would think that most of the historic buildings should not be leveled. For example, the Lowell School, places like that.
What neighborhood has the best architecture? Probably around Colorado College and north, in that general area. And there are some pretty nice places toward the Broadmoor.

What's your favorite building in Colorado Springs? The Colorado Springs School. I've done a lot of weddings there, and I think it's beautiful. I love the really high ceilings, and I love all the ornate moldings.
What building do you think is the ugliest? I only moved here in April, so I haven't thought about that.
What building deserves our protection? I'd have to say an old railroad station, if there are any. I don't know. I've investigated up Ute Pass, and I love when they restore old railroad stations.
What neighborhood has the best architecture? I'd have to say Old Colorado City. I love Victorian homes.

What's your favorite building in Colorado Springs? The [Penrose] library. It's modern-looking, but I like the people that work there. They put up with me.
What building do you think is the ugliest? All the stores in downtown that don't match one another. It's pretty ugly. I like synchronicity.
What building deserves our protection? The [Penrose] library. The older part and the new, renovated part.
What neighborhood has the best architecture? My neighborhood, near Oro Blanco and Carefree. It has the best people, at least.
