IQ: Did music drop off? 

Can you name a musical artist of the past 20 or so years even remotely comparable to Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan or Janis Joplin? Did music drop off with the advent of CDs? Maybe there's something so smooth about the sound of the vinyl.

What five albums would you take to a desert island? I can't listen to the same performance over and over. Would you watch a film of a great meal or of a memorable incident from your sex life over and over?

Do you prefer records or CDs? Records have a warmer sound, but I like the convenience of CDs.

What was your first record purchase? The Doors' first album.

What was the best decade for music? Whatever decade it was that Beethoven and Mozart overlapped.

What five albums would you take to a desert island? Something from Mozart, something from Bach, a vundai album (island music unique to the South Pacific), an album by a Colorado group called Timberline, and a John Denver album.

Do your prefer albums or CDs? CDs due to the higher signal-to-noise ratio.

What was your first album purchase? An 11-record set of classical music from the back of a magazine when I was 11 years old.

What was the best decade for music? It's a tie between the last 10 years of Mozart's life and the 1960s.

What was your first album purchase? Elton John, Madman Across the Water.

Do you collect anything? I collect globes. I have 60 at home.

What was the best decade for music? The 1970s.

What five albums would you take with you to a desert island? Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd; Dead Air for Radios and You Go Now by Chromakey; and Electric Ladyland by Hendrix.

Do you prefer records or CDs? I'm a computer geek. I go for digital clarity.

What was your first record purchase? The Beatles' Hey Jude from my brother for $2.

What was the best decade for music? The early 1970s when rock started getting progressive.
