IQ: Flying the friendly skies

Imagine: settling into your cozy economy-class seat with a good book and your favorite symphony on the headphones. Jabba the Hut comes waddling down the aisle and puts his duffel in the compartment above your head. You know you're doomed.

What do you think of flying post 9/11? I don't really worry about it. You can't live your life in fear. You just have to go on.

Should pilots be packing heat? No. I think if they put in the security doors, where it's secure and no one can get up to the front, then that's precaution enough. Having a gun on board is just one other weapon that someone could get their hands on.

What should United do to get out of hock? I think they need to come up with an approach somewhat like Southwest Airlines. They don't need to have all the bells and whistles for flying; most people are just looking for a cheap flight.

What is airplane food made of? Same stuff fast food is made of. Processed, its all chemicals ... zap-a-meals.

What do you think of flying post 9/11? I think maybe it's a little safer now.

Should pilots be packing heat? I think so. It worked for the Israeli airlines, and I think we're in the type of situation right now where it's necessary.

What should United do to get out of hock? I don't know if there's anything they can do, really. Reduce the amount of flights, lower prices. I don't think any of that is going to help them.

What's your most bizarre airplane story? I was in an airplane crash once. When I was in the service, I was flying in a trainer with another pilot. On landing, the nose wheel gave way, and the plane flipped over. I walked away.

What is airplane food made of? Probably the cheapest possible materials they can get their hands on.

Should pilots be packing heat? Hell, no! Those people have enough stress in their lives; they don't need guns in their hands.

What should United do to get out of hock? Wages are way out of line for what those people do. Secondly, management needs to be discarded and rehired. And no more bailouts from us. And how about some customer service?

Most bizarre airplane story? Flying from Las Vegas to Orange Country. We hit major air pockets, and literally, they brought you out of your seat. I thought I was going to die.

What is airplane food made of? Styrofoam? I have no clue. I bring my own food.
